Our First Summer Vacation

Jackson Hole, Wyoming

We left Yellowstone on Sunday and drove down to Jackson Hole.  It was actually a really nice drive, we drove thru Yellowstone Park and into Grand Teton National Park to get here. Very scenic, and as relaxing as it can be driving an RV.  My bottom photo is a bison crossing the street in front of us.  I have read quite a few stories in the local papers about people being gored by the bison.  Most of the time we chose to photograph them from our car!
We never did see any bears in Yellowstone but it seems like all of the other tourists we have met along the way saw them, oh well.
My top photo is the family with the Grand Tetons in the background (Maggie was barking at me).  The Snake River runs along the mountains and yesterday we rafted 21 miles down the river.  The first 13 miles were a scenic float and we didn't even have to row.  The next 8 miles was a section that had rapids and all of the adults in the boat had paddles.  It was tons of fun!!! Scott and the boys had never done it before and they loved it.  The water was 50 degrees though, brrrr but the sun quickly warmed us.

We have really enjoyed the town of Jackson Hole. There are lots of fabulous restaurants here and we have really taken advantage of that.  Last night we ate at a place that served wild game.  Scott got a sampler platter with venison, buffalo and elk.  I tried it but it was hard to enjoy because all of the animals were stuffed and on display- staring at me.

Today it has rained for much of the day.  We were going to go to Teton Village and take a tram up the mountain but the weather has been so dreary.  Tonight we are going to dinner at a chuckwagon.  You ride in a calistoga wagon up to a campsite where you eat and watch live entertainment.  We have heard really good things about it, we hope it's fun and the weather improves.

Tomorrow we are getting up early to drive to the Badlands and Mount Rushmore.
